Shukuru helps girls invest in their own education.

High school is the road less traveled for a girl in Africa.

Shukuru’s Eggs a Sensation!

Last Saturday, Shukuru participated in the local farmers market in the city of Arusha, Tanzania, organized by Oikos East Africa.

Field staff Haggai Nkini and Carley Kwiatkowski spent the day selling out on the over 320 eggs raised by 3 promising Shukuru entrepreneurs: Margaret Ernest (11), Rozi Goodluck (13) and Miriam Elias (13).

Shoppers were keen to buy the eggs, which stood out for their size and beautiful color, they claimed.

Most importantly, buyers understood that their purchase was a direct investment in Tanzanian girls’ commitment to self-finance their own secondary education.

Our success in this niche market speaks to the quality of Shukuru’s eggs and, of course, to the prosperous efforts of the Shukuru girls and their families in chicken rearing!
