Starting on the 16th June, we conducted a two day workshop for the girls from Shukuru and our partner in this workshop, NAFGEM and their parents on sexual and reproductive health. The 16th June was also African Child Day. The pictures below show the girls taking part in songs and dances and group acting. The Shukuru and NAFGEM girls worked and shared ideas on a variety of topics during the workshop. The parents were also together with the girls in the opening of the training and then attended a separate training session on sexual and health education and parenting skills.
In the second day of training, the girls were provided with more training on sexual health. They also learned about menstrual cycles and personal hygiene. At the end of the day, the NAFGEM girls were presented with gifts by one of Shukuru’s committee members, Irene Kileo, who is also the Ivaenyi’s community development chairperson. Thank you Irene. The gifts were pens and pencils from San Francisco, rulers and notebooks for their school work, as Shukuru advocates girl’s education. The trainers also provided Shukuru girls with gifts at the end of the workshop (Sanitary pads, soap, toothbrushs and toothpastes) that were donated by Carley Andrews. Thank you Carley. The gifts complimented the training on personal hygiene and ways to properly use sanitary pads. We hope you enjoy the photos.
